As families from Hazlehurst, Blackshear, and communities beyond Baxley travel, they want to make sure their new SUV has enough room for everyone and everything. Towing capability, cabin comforts, and connected technology are equally important for any traveling lifestyle. At Woody Folsom Ford, we feature two new SUVs with three rows of seats. Both excel in their field, but how do the Ford Explorer and the Ford Expedition compare? Find out as your Baxley Ford dealer shows you what these new SUVs have to offer.

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Expedition Interior

Seating

Families from Baxley can seat seven passengers in a new Ford Explorer. For more options, families from Jesup can ride in a new Ford Expedition, which offers seating configurations for five, seven, and eight passengers. The Expedition's XL STX has a unique two-row setup that seats five passengers while remaining a full-size SUV. Both Ford SUVs give you convenient access to the back row before heading back to Baxley, thanks to PowerFold® third-row seats.

Legroom

Families from Lyons appreciate ample legroom, and these new Ford SUVs offer it. The new Ford Expedition has better legroom features for each row.

  • Ford Expedition: 44/42/36 inches (first/second/third row)
  • Ford Explorer: 43/39/32 inches (first/second/third row)

Cargo Space

As you leave Ludowici on a trip or run errands in Jesup, these new Ford SUVs offer generous amounts of cargo space to adapt to current needs. As a full-size SUV, the new Ford Expedition offers more cargo space. If groups from Baxley need to bring along more belongings, there are Ford Expedition MAX models that welcome an additional 15 cubic feet of cargo space. The cargo figures listed below are by row as Blackshear travelers begin to fold the seats.

  • Ford Expedition: 21/64/105 cubic feet
  • Ford Expedition MAX: 36/80/121 cubic feet
  • Ford Explorer: 18/48/88 cubic feet

Features

With standard Tri-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, both the Ford Expedition and Ford Explorer can help passengers regulate cabin temperature by row on the way back to Blackshear. New Ford Expedition SUVs offer a Panoramic Vista Roof®, compared to a twin-panel moonroof for the Ford Explorer. Each Ford SUV provides leather-trimmed seats, but the Ford Expedition maximizes relaxation for those in the front with multicontour front seats featuring Active Motion Massage® settings.

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Expedition Performance

EcoBoost® twin-turbocharged V6 engines are a shared powertrain for the three-row Ford SUVs. A turbocharged 4-cylinder engine outputting 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque is standard for the new Ford Explorer, which can tow 5,600 pounds and produce up to 400 horsepower through the V6 engine. With a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, the new Ford Expedition can help Hazlehurst drivers haul heavier trailers.

For a power boost, Blackshear SUV shoppers can get the keys to a new Ford Expedition, which delivers 380 standard horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. High-output variants for the V6 engine vault these performance outputs to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet torque in the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum models, or to 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque in the Timberline and Stealth models.

Each three-row Ford SUV is equipped with Intelligent 4WD and a Terrain Management System™. Each SUV offers a Timberline trim, but the Expedition's model provides 10.6 inches of best-in-class ground clearance, topping the Explorer's variant at 8.66 inches.

Fuel Economy (City/Highway Miles Per Gallon)

The new Ford Explorer offers a hybrid model and is more fuel-efficient to drive between Baxley and Blackshear.

  • Ford Expedition: 17/23 mpg
  • Ford Explorer: 21/28 mpg
  • Ford Explorer Hybrid: 27/28 mpg

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Expedition Technology

All passengers can plug in, as each Ford SUV offers USB ports for every row. Shared tech features include 12-inch digital instrument clusters, Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ integration, wireless charging, and Bang & Olufsen® premium sound systems. The Explorer offers up to 14 speakers, fewer than the Expedition with up to 22 speakers. There's a standard 8-inch display in the Ford Explorer, which offers a 10.1-inch LCD capacitive portrait touchscreen.

Both screens are smaller than the new Ford Expedition, which lets Ludowici drivers access multimedia through a standard 12-inch display or an optional 15.5-inch center stack screen. The Ford Expedition provides the choice between SYNC® 4 and SYNC® 4A (with Voice Recognition and Connected Built-In Navigation), while the Ford Explorer provides SYNC® 3.

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Expedition Safety

Ford BlueCruise™ is offered so Lyons motorists can drive their Ford Expedition hands-free on US-1 and US-280. The new Ford Expedition also offers Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ 2.0, a class-exclusive feature to assist Lyons drivers when they're hitching up. The new SUVs each come with the Ford Co-Pilot360™ suite, which packages shared features, including BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert.

Ford Explorer vs. Ford Expedition Price

For a more budget-friendly SUV, Baxley families can travel in a new Ford Explorer, which starts at $36,760. The new Ford Expedition has a $55,525 starting price. The initial three-row model starts at $55,590.
