How often should I change my oil?

Many newer-model vehicles come equipped with an Intelligent Oil‐Life Monitor® that determines when you should change the engine oil based on how your vehicle is used. This means you do not have to remember to change the oil on a mileage-based schedule. Your vehicle lets you know when an oil change is due by displaying a message in the information display.

Paying close attention to your vehicle's owner's manual and its recommended scheduled maintenance intervals will help ensure that oil changes are done before any engine damage can occur.

The easiest way to tell if you need an oil change is by checking your owner's manual to see what the recommended intervals are for your vehicle. You might also have a sticker on the inside of your windshield that tells you the last time your vehicle was serviced and when you should schedule your next oil change. Your car might also illuminate an oil warning light to let you know that it's time for an appointment. Of course, you're always welcome to give us a call if you need help determining when your car needs service.

You can also check your oil yourself to see what sort of state it's in by using your car's dipstick to check the color of your oil. Fresh oil is golden-brown. If your car's oil is dark or sludgy, it's time for a change.

Other warning signs that your car is overdue for an oil change include:

  • Unusual engine noises, such as knocking
  • Smell of oil inside the car
  • Exhaust smoke
  • And other problems

Should you notice any of these warning signs, be sure to get in touch with our Ford service center in Baxley right away. These issues indicate that there is already a problem that needs attention, so we highly recommend getting in touch with us for an appointment as soon as you can so that we can help.
